late nights and lost sleep

So I haven't stayed true to the "Monday Trend Update" for the past 3 weeks and I am kind of mad at myself for it. It was something that I looked forward to on the laziest most dreaded days of the week, but I've been swamped and keeping up with school. So this Friday (tomorrow) I will do a HUGE fall trend post on the things I FEEL are key and that I personally like.

So look forward to that:)

Monday Trend Update: Fierce as a Vampire

No, Edward Cullen has nothing to do with this fall trend or the whole Twilight uproar for that matter. The secret of this edgy look is simply layering black on black.

(1.Haider Ackermann, 2. Ann Demeulemeester, 3-4. Alexander Wang)

The dark look was featured in quite a few collections as pictured above and is anything but your teen vampire fantasy. Personally I love the look, black is my color and the dark edge and even elegance of it is all the more reason to love this. You can never go wrong with black and there are multiple ways to wear it and accessorize
it. But if you want the dark romance look vamped up for the fall then LAYER LAYER LAYER!!!

Long black skirts, coats and leather are key aspects of this trend so don't worry about spending an arm and a leg to get something exactly similar to the collections. And if you want to go even further, pile on the dark makeup and slick back your hair to one side.

That's it for this week, I'll be back next Monday for another trend update and if you'd like me to give my take on another trend please leave comments. DON'T FORGET TO SUBSRIBE!!! And tell your all your fashionista friends about Crimewave.

Monday Trend Update

So I am starting this new thing on my blog called "Monday Trend Update" where I talk a bout one emerging trend(s) that I find interesting or "drekitude" (as Andre Leon Talley would put it) and give my comments and points of view.

*Note that these trends may not always be recent*

Hopefully this will help get more people reading, especially those going into fashion design and looking for ideas or simply the fashion savvy individual who likes being current with the times.

So without further ado, here's the first "Monday Trend Update."

Something that caught my eye the moment I saw it was these shoes featured in Jean Paul Gaultier's Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2010 collection:

When I first saw this I couldn't help but think of the movie The Devil Wears Prada (which is one of my favorite movies). Considering it feels similar to the shoe that is on the cover on the dvd.

I must say though it adds a whole new twist to a classic and is a great way to give it more attention. Will we see something similar going down the runway of other designers? I think not, its a Gaultier original and it certainly added to the feel and overall look of his collection. But who's to say.

Before I go I leave you with two looks from his collection to see how the shoe is a great piece to give his designs a head to toe finish.

Change

So for those out there in the blog world or anyone for that matter who actually reads this, I am going to be changing this blog. I'm not going to be blogging so much about me and more about fashion. I'm going to be blogging about trends, designers, etc.

I will update every now and then on what I'm up to and current works of art, just not as often. Also I'm going to be working on a new banner and layout, It's a little too plain for my taste and could use some much needed umph.

On a positive note, I started school at Ai 2 weeks ago and couldn't be more happy. Things are going great and I can't wait to keep learning.

Now onto business, The one sole collection that I found the most to my liking and fitting to my aesthetic was Vera Wang's fall 2010 collection.

I've always been fond of the whole femme fatal and film noir thing, so I was very excited to see Vera put her modern spin on it.

I just love the whole look of it all. The hair, the multiple pearl necklaces, everything. Even the fur, and I usually don't like fur at all.

Overall it's a lovely collection and I will definitely keep on eye out on Vera since before I saw this collection I hadn't liked much of her work. This collection was the standout on for me so far.

I think that it's good everyones going back into time and bringing back old trends and looks and making them modern. As Oscar De La Renta put it, "I look back to look forward."

On A Roll...

Well summer's here and I'm officially out of high school. I'm now now awaiting the start of my first day of college at The Art Institute of Tucson!!! I can't wait to start learning more about fashion, hone my skills and ultimately become a designer.

Now that I'm out of school I've had more time to sketch and work on my creativeness. Unfortunately I haven't really sketched as much as I know I should, but I'm finding more and more inspiration each day and I can't help but let my creative juices thrive and take hold. So here's what I have done:

My most recent sketch-

And I even attempted a watercolor painting, which came out quite nicely-

I loved it so much that I did this with it in photoshop-

There's tons more to come, I PROMISE!

Glamour Factory

It's getting so close to graduation and I think the senioritus is kicking in. I hope I make it through because I am determined to get into The Art Institute. This Monday me and my partents went there and I filled out my application and next Wednestday we meet with a finacial advisor (and I have to take a type of apptitude/placement test for math & english).

So I'm keeping a postitive attitude/outlook in hopes that I make it. WISH ME LUCK EVERYONE!!!

Now onto the main attraction.............
I was inspired by Viktor&Rolf's Glamour Factory colletction. I thought the whole thing was very clever. Every model from h2t looked awesome and I was in awe.

Here's what I came up with:

Those who I've shown it to say it's really nice and some even said they'd like to wear something like it(the girls of course). It always makes me happy to hear feedback like that, so please leave some comments as well.

Until next time(which might be pretty soon), Goodbye.

New Stuff

Hello Everyone.
I'm aware nobody really reads this blog, so I need to think of ways to get more people reading. Obviously I need to talk more about other things than besides my sketches so hopefully I get on more often and begin blogging about other things as well.

But for now, here's another sketch of mine. I'm actually working on building a portfolio, it's not for any particular reason. It's just a neat project I want to work on, It's going to be a slideshow of some of my various ideas and such. So stay tuned for that, It should be here in a week or so.

Here's my latest sketch (inspired by Alexander McQueen's F/W 2010 collection)

Floral Done My Way

So like I said, everyday I would post a recent sketch that I've done.
So here it is:

I can't really draw floral patterns, but who says it has to be super detailed. This is how I saw it in my head and how I put it on the page. I'm VERY happy with the outcome.

I hope you like it:)
I did it in my new sketchbook that I bought yesterday. Anyways, leave me your comments and what not

I'll post another tommorrow.

Kickin' It Up a Notch

OK, so my blog isn't going so well pertaining to views and responds. I think that I need to do something more interesting and get people's attention.

So since I want to be a fashion designer, I thought I'd do something that will not only benefit me but give everyone something to look forward to and comment on.

Everyday I will sketch 1 new design, scan it, and post it up on my blog for everyone to see and comment on. I need to get better at my sketches and I'd love to hear what people think about how I'm doing so far.

Unfortunately I don't have one for today, but I will have one for tomorrow and every other day (except the weekends).

Well g2g,
-Abel

Btw, if you haven't noticed I changed my banner to something that doesn't have my face on it. I think it still stays true to my style (especially since it has the glasses on it).

A Taste of France

Even though 2009 is over, I still can't get over FIDM's 2009 Debut show.
All the student collections were amazing and definately unique. But the one that stood out the most to me and I'll always remember is Jonathon's french inspired look. Here is a video of his collection (and if you pay close attention, you'll here that the song that he plays is the same song that I have here on my blog)

The Reality of it All

So if you've been reading along, you know I want to go to college for fashion or graphic design. On top of that, I have to decide between FIDM and AI.

There's so much to think about and it's making the decisions very hard. I've been lucky enough that my graphic arts teacher Mr. Pederson has given his input and been a HUGE help. The only thing is I have so much more to think about.

I now have to not only think about what I want, but I also have to put my family into the equation. I have to now decide how is this going to affect me, how is this going to affect my family. I am so close to my family here in Tucson and I can't stand the idea of moving away from them, but at the same time I feel that there's more opportunity in LA than Tucson.

Mr. Pederson opened my eyes to the bigger picture, it's tough.

I hope that I can come to a decision soon, and hopefully it's one that satisfies both me and my family. I hope that I end up at either school and pursue fashion design like I know that I want.

But all I can do is hope, hope that things work out.

FIDM vs. AI - Round 1

It's Monday, and I'm surprisingly awake do to the hour and a half of extra sleep that I got. My alarm decided not to wake me up at 5 this morning which left me no time for a nice warm shower. Don't worry though, I'm not all gross and stinky. That Sunday morning I showered so it's not so bad. I made sure to pack on the deodorant and cologne.

Anyways, I also received my FIDM application in the mail yesterday. Along with it came a DVD with the 2009 Debut show (which was even more amazing then the last one), and a stack of articles that FIDM has been featured in.

So I think Round 1 of which college I should go to goes to.....
FIDM!!

So the score is FIDM - 1 and AI - 0

This might change over the weekend, I have an appointment to visit AI this Saturday so this may change.

That's all I have for today,
I got to work on my 10 sketches for my FIDM application :)

Fashion Your Seatbelts

The choice to choose between attending either AI or FIDM is getting a lot harder to decide on.

I spent my Wednesday evening calling both schools and talking to them about their programs and all that good stuff. I'm scheduled to visit AI next Saturday and tour the campus and get a close look at the classes. I wanted to know more about both fashion & graphic design from them.

As for FIDM, I can't really go and visit considering it's up in California. I had a hard time with them, I had to make a choice between the two of which I'd prefer more and I chose fashion design of course. I couldn't believe some of the info that they gave me. FIDM has been here for 50 years and is the largest accredited fashion design school in the country. If I were to go there, I'd have a job in retail at a place like Macy's my first year automatically and my second year I'd have a job actual job in fashion design. They have so much more to offer and more opportunity in fashion than AI does, but I'm still not too sure.

I'm not to sure if I'm ready to move far from home and be around people that I absolutely don't know, while if I were to go ti AI i'd be close to home and I'm already so familiar with the school and have gotten comfortable with the atmosphere of the school. I've done so much with them like summer programs, etc.

Hopefully it gets easier to chose as graduation gets closer, but for now I'm absolutely torn between the two schools.

So for now it's a full out battle between:
VS.

If anyone has any helpful advice or suggestions, I'd be very grateful.

Well have a great weekend everyone, TGIF!

Stop Talk, Talk, Talking That Blah, Blah , Blah

The title's lyrics from a song called Blah, Blah, Blah by Ke$ha ft. 3OH!3.
I'm pretty sure everyone's heard her single "Tik Tok," sometime on the radio. I've been listening to her new album for a bit, it's ok.

Here's the cover of her album "Animal"

Anyways, lets get on with what's up...
Again, yesterday was a typical relatively okay day at school except for the fact I spilled ketchup over my gray skinny jeans. My good friend Lisette said it wasn't noticeable but I needed a second opinion so I asked my other friend Eddie. He just confirmed what I already knew, he said "Oh yeah, I can see it." So in order to cover the spot I carried my backpack in my hand in front of me. I felt so weird doing it, but at least nobody saw it.

Did anyone hear about this Japanese baby who go a chopstick up his nose and it was lodged 4 inches into his brain!!!!??? That's crazy! I'd be so scared, good thing he survived and wasn't really hurt. That was the crazy news for the day.

Nothing interesting happened yesterday, I sported my Lady Gaga tee in style (at least I think so) and my friend "accidentally" forgot I was gonna wear it and wore his as well. But it was no biggie. The mean thing is on the bus, my sister said "There was this fat kid wearing the same shirt at you brother." I couldn't believe she said such a mean thing, all she could say was sorry when I told her that was a friend of mine. Shame on her lol

Well I got to get to work, I have an assignment to do here in my graphic arts class. I have to design both a modern & vintage football trading card that's due Friday.

Well ttfn,
-Abel

What's been goin' down!?

Alright so I haven't been blogging as much as I know I should. A good blogger updates everyday! Well right now my computer privileges have been taken due to grades. My mom totally spazed out when she saw that I got an incomplete in my Honors Pre-Calculus class and an F in my internship class. Luckily I got started yesterday and was able to fix them. I have a D in pre-cal (not exactly where I want to be, but at least I didn't fail). And I just have to turn in my log of hours for my internship and I'll have my A. But that's still not enough for my mom.

So this means I'll do all my blogging from school til I get my computer back. So it was weird starting school up again yesterday, but I'm sure I'll get back into the groove pretty soon. I have so much to do, this is the LAST semester of my senior year!!!!!!! My news resolution was to stop being lazy and to work to my potential. It's going to be hard, but I hope to do my best and get through the last few months smoothly. On top of that I still have my SAT and ACT to take. I know without a doubt I want to attend either The Art Institute of Tucson or FIDM, and if I'm lucky they it won't be a requirement for them. But then again, it couldn't hurt to take the tests anyways. Overall yesterday was a ok day.

Today in 1st period economics, we had this little sheet we had to fill out about ourselves. One of the things we had to write was something interesting about ourselves, I put that I blog. So...

MR. KLEIN, IF YOUR READING THIS.... WHAT'S UP? Lolol, sorry that I gave you the wrong address on my paper.

Anyways, ttyl everyone.

-Abel.
