late nights and lost sleep

So I haven't stayed true to the "Monday Trend Update" for the past 3 weeks and I am kind of mad at myself for it. It was something that I looked forward to on the laziest most dreaded days of the week, but I've been swamped and keeping up with school. So this Friday (tomorrow) I will do a HUGE fall trend post on the things I FEEL are key and that I personally like.

So look forward to that:)

Monday Trend Update: Fierce as a Vampire

No, Edward Cullen has nothing to do with this fall trend or the whole Twilight uproar for that matter. The secret of this edgy look is simply layering black on black.

(1.Haider Ackermann, 2. Ann Demeulemeester, 3-4. Alexander Wang)

The dark look was featured in quite a few collections as pictured above and is anything but your teen vampire fantasy. Personally I love the look, black is my color and the dark edge and even elegance of it is all the more reason to love this. You can never go wrong with black and there are multiple ways to wear it and accessorize
it. But if you want the dark romance look vamped up for the fall then LAYER LAYER LAYER!!!

Long black skirts, coats and leather are key aspects of this trend so don't worry about spending an arm and a leg to get something exactly similar to the collections. And if you want to go even further, pile on the dark makeup and slick back your hair to one side.

That's it for this week, I'll be back next Monday for another trend update and if you'd like me to give my take on another trend please leave comments. DON'T FORGET TO SUBSRIBE!!! And tell your all your fashionista friends about Crimewave.

Monday Trend Update

So I am starting this new thing on my blog called "Monday Trend Update" where I talk a bout one emerging trend(s) that I find interesting or "drekitude" (as Andre Leon Talley would put it) and give my comments and points of view.

*Note that these trends may not always be recent*

Hopefully this will help get more people reading, especially those going into fashion design and looking for ideas or simply the fashion savvy individual who likes being current with the times.

So without further ado, here's the first "Monday Trend Update."

Something that caught my eye the moment I saw it was these shoes featured in Jean Paul Gaultier's Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2010 collection:

When I first saw this I couldn't help but think of the movie The Devil Wears Prada (which is one of my favorite movies). Considering it feels similar to the shoe that is on the cover on the dvd.

I must say though it adds a whole new twist to a classic and is a great way to give it more attention. Will we see something similar going down the runway of other designers? I think not, its a Gaultier original and it certainly added to the feel and overall look of his collection. But who's to say.

Before I go I leave you with two looks from his collection to see how the shoe is a great piece to give his designs a head to toe finish.

Change

So for those out there in the blog world or anyone for that matter who actually reads this, I am going to be changing this blog. I'm not going to be blogging so much about me and more about fashion. I'm going to be blogging about trends, designers, etc.

I will update every now and then on what I'm up to and current works of art, just not as often. Also I'm going to be working on a new banner and layout, It's a little too plain for my taste and could use some much needed umph.

On a positive note, I started school at Ai 2 weeks ago and couldn't be more happy. Things are going great and I can't wait to keep learning.

Now onto business, The one sole collection that I found the most to my liking and fitting to my aesthetic was Vera Wang's fall 2010 collection.

I've always been fond of the whole femme fatal and film noir thing, so I was very excited to see Vera put her modern spin on it.

I just love the whole look of it all. The hair, the multiple pearl necklaces, everything. Even the fur, and I usually don't like fur at all.

Overall it's a lovely collection and I will definitely keep on eye out on Vera since before I saw this collection I hadn't liked much of her work. This collection was the standout on for me so far.

I think that it's good everyones going back into time and bringing back old trends and looks and making them modern. As Oscar De La Renta put it, "I look back to look forward."

On A Roll...

Well summer's here and I'm officially out of high school. I'm now now awaiting the start of my first day of college at The Art Institute of Tucson!!! I can't wait to start learning more about fashion, hone my skills and ultimately become a designer.

Now that I'm out of school I've had more time to sketch and work on my creativeness. Unfortunately I haven't really sketched as much as I know I should, but I'm finding more and more inspiration each day and I can't help but let my creative juices thrive and take hold. So here's what I have done:

My most recent sketch-

And I even attempted a watercolor painting, which came out quite nicely-

I loved it so much that I did this with it in photoshop-

There's tons more to come, I PROMISE!
